Vascular Access Service
The vascular access service is run independently by the interventional radiology nurse specialists and provides vascular access devices for the purposes of medication, blood products transfusion, fluids and nutrition. Examples include peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) and tunnelled central lines (Hickman). It is commissioned for inpatients only and cannot accept referrals direct from primary care.
