Nasal Obstruction

DEFINITION
 
Poor or absent passage of air through nasal airway (uni or bilateral, constant or fluctuating).
 
 
MANAGEMENT OPTIONS PRIOR TO REFERRAL
 
If appropriate, try:
 
 
INDICATION FOR REFERRAL
 
 
  • Persistently bothersome symptoms resulting from significant obstruction; 
  • And have failed to respond to the above conservative measures;
  • And where the patient would accept nasal surgery.
 
n.b. nasal obstruction causing or associated with snoring, with no other bothersome symptoms - not an indication for referral.”
 
 
INFORMATION TO INCLUDE IN REFERRAL
 
? Trial of nasal steroid
? History of allergy
? History of nasal surgery
Co-morbidity that will compromise fitness for anaesthesia
