Lost Intrauterine and Subdermal Contraceptive Devices
IUD/IUS
- Pelvic USS is indicated where IUD/IUS threads that cannot be located. Ensure a suitable alternative form of contraception until further investigation
- If USS does not locate the device, arrange abdominal and pelvic XR
SDI
- Impalpable subdermal contraceptive implant should be located using XR (Nexplanon only) or USS of the implant site. Ensure a suitable alternative form of contraception until further investigation
- If USS or XR does not locate the device, arrange chest XR to exclude intravascular migration
